Pin Parvati Pass Trek

One of the most beautiful and famous treks in Himachal Pradesh, Pin Paravati pass is a barrier of Pin and Paravati valley. The trek starts in the tourist valley of Parvati but soon leaves the hustle behind and heads in to the real Himalayan wilderness. As one leave the Parvati Valley behind the mountains become much higher and more impressive. Crossing the Pin Parvati Pass is technical and there is some real high altitude walking and glacier travel to be done. Not for the faint hearted but a trek that will take you into the real heart of the High Himalaya.

Itinerary

Day 1
Manali to Pulaga by Jeep Trek to Khir Ganga (3200m)
The trip starts with a drive to pulaga, on the way breakfast at Manikaran before reaching Pulaga. The Parvati Valley, named after the wife of Shiva is one beautiful valley worthy of it’s name. The first day of trekking leaves the valley floor and ascend through heavy pine forests. A pleasant days walking as the trail steadily ascend to the small village of Kheer Ganga. Kheer Ganga is a place with its own hot springs and we’ll camp close to the Hot Spring.

Day 2
Khirganga to Tunda Bhoj, 5 hours (3400m)
The valley becomes a little more lush and vegetated as trail steadily makes its way up to Thunda Bhoj, a beautiful campsite set amidst waterfalls and wild flowers.

Day 3
Day 3 Tunda Buj to thakar kuan (3400m)
The trail descends down to the Parvati river through beautiful rhododendron forest. The tricky walk beside the river leads to the beautiful camp side Thakar kuan.

Day 4
Thakur Kuan – Odi Thach (3800m) 5 hours
Today trek crosses the Parvati River by the most common way the Pandu rock bridge. Said to have been made by the Pandavas of the Hidu epic, the Mahabharat, the bridge is formed by two huge boulders and creates a few heart stopping moments upon crossing for some.

Day 5
Odi thach to Mantalai Lake, 6-7 hours (4160m)
Today is a shorter, steadier day to approach the beautiful Mantalai Lake. The approach to the camp is by a steep climb and is rewarded with fine views of the Kullu Eiger. The camp is by the lake and one can enjoy the sun setting over this amazing landscape.

Day 6
Mantalai Lake to Base Camp 4 hours (4500m)
A steep climb through boulder fields and meadows leads to the high camp below the pass. There are good views towards Pyramid Peak and Snow Peak and also gives a bird’s eye view of the Parbati River gushing from the main glacier.

Day 7
Base Camp to Base Camp via Pin Parvati Pass (5320m), 7-8 hours
The trek starts with crossing a boulder field before eventually getting on to the summit snow slopes. it passes over a glacier before the final slopes and depending on the conditions one may have to rope up on this section. At the pass there is an amazing view of the contrast between the green and fertile Kullu Valley and the stark barrenness of the Spiti Valley. The descent involves more snow walking before crossing some scree slopes and reaches the campsite in the Pin Valley (4100m).

Day 8
Base Camp to Mood Village(3750m). 6-7 hours Mood to Kaza drive
After a tough start walking over more scree the descent of the Pin Valley is relaxing and pleasant. The trail passes through shepherd camps and through rugged valley landscapes. There are several side valleys that are the gateways to more passes, trek heads straight down the valley and head to the small village of Mud. The village nestles under some cliffs and is surrounded by fields of wheat and barley. From here a two hours dive leads to Kaza. Kaza is a good sized town with full services and a nice, relaxed place to end the trip. Night stay at guest house in Kaza.

Day 9
Kaza to Manali
Today its a 200 km drive back to Manali. The road goes through the barren landscape of Lahaul and crosses two separate passes, the Kunzum(4500m) and Rohtang(3950m). As one crosses the Rohtang pass we have views of the beautiful green Kullu Valley, a fine sight for those who have been in the high Himalaya for so long.

Inclusive - Jeep Manali to Pulaga village, Jeep Mood to Kaza. Hotel accommodation at Kaza in twin sharing basis, all tented accommodation, all meals during the trek, communal trekking equipment (tents, kitchen, sleeping bag, sleeping mat, horse/porters, guide, cook.)

Exclusive - 1st day breakfast and last day dinner. Transportation to reach Manali and leaving from Manali, jeep or bus from Kaza to Manali. Accommodation at Manali. Meals during road journeys.
