Kalihyani Pass

The trek to the high altitude Kalhyani pass takes you to the higher reaches of Pirpanjal range, the name Kalihyani signifies the black glacier, and the old ice formations of the ancient glaciers are visible at the pass. The trek goes through alpine forest, Rolling Meadows and glacial moraine zones. The trek offers majestic view’s of adjacent mountain ranges of Pir Panjal and Dhauladhar , one can enjoy wild flower specially in the month of August.

Day 1
Manali – Lama Dugh (3017m) 6 HRS
The trip starts with drive to Dungri village, a steep trail leads its way through pine, oak and silver birch forest to lama Dugh. Here the tree line ends and after this only alpine meadows will be encountered.

Day 2
Lama Dugh – Riyali Thach (3400m) 7 HRS
The day starts with a steep hike to Khand Pari Tibba col (4000m), from this point we can have a magnificent view of a 360 degree panorama, the Dhauladhar , Pir Panjal and Chandrabhaga range with their majestic mountain reveals themselves. From Khanparipari tibba the trek descends to Riyali Thach for tonight’s campsite.

Day 3
Riyali Thach – Base of Kalihani pass (4050m) 6 HRS
Leaving Riyali Thach the trail proceed through open meadows then descends to a prominent stream, crossing the stream the trail continues through steep slopes to reach the base of Kalihani pass. From here one can see beautiful view of Deo Tibba and Indrasan Peak.

Day 4
Base of Kalihani pass – Kalihani pass(4725m) – Back to base 8 HRS
The steep climb through the scree, moraine zones of kalhani glacier leads to top of the pass. From the pass a 360 degree view of hanging glaciers, PirPanjal & Dhauladhar mountain ranges can be seen. The steep downward descent will lead back to the base.

Day 5
Base of Kalihani pass – Rani Sui(3400m) 6HRS
The trail leads back to Riyali Thach and climbs up to the campsite, the Small water hole of Rani Sui.

Day 6
Rani Sui – Shangchar(2600m) – Manali 6HRS
The trail descends through alpine forest of pine, oak, silver birch and leads to Shangchar village, the start of the road head. Drive back to Manali on the same day.


Includes – All transport from Manali To Manali, all accommodation (in tent), all meals during the trek, communal trekking equipment (tents, sleeping beg, sleeping mat, kitchen, horse/porters..), guide, cook.

Excludes – First day breakfast and last day dinner. Transportation to reach Manali & leave Manali. Accomodation in Manali.
